Popular Arts in the Americas It is an exhibition that brings together different manifestations of the traditional arts of North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
The popular arts, customs, and traditions of the Americas represent the cultural expression that most powerfully and dramatically expresses the racial and cultural fusion that has taken place on our continent over the past five centuries. Although the indigenous population suffered the impact of European conquest and colonization and disappeared as a society in many areas, in others it remains the largest population group.
European emigration over the last five hundred years, especially from Spain, Portugal, England, France, and the Netherlands, has left its mark by imposing its languages, customs, philosophical, political, economic concepts, and the Christian religion.
Africans, who were uprooted from their lands to perform forced labor in the Americas from the early decades of the 16th century, contributed their race and culture to the formation of new nationalities, while also contributing diverse cultural expressions. Asian cultures such as Hindu and Chinese, although on a smaller scale, have contributed to the formation of some American nations in certain geographic areas.
The Museum of the Americas thanks the various nations of our continent for their collaboration in making this rich and valuable exhibition possible.
