Traveling Trunks

The Traveling Trunks educational project's main objective is to establish a reciprocal relationship between the Museum and the country's schools to encourage the analysis and dissemination of humanistic topics. The trunks are designed to be part of the school curriculum and, in turn, serve as motivation for students to become interested in visiting and using the Museum as a tool for their intellectual development.

Handcrafted Trunk
The Artisan Chest contains representative pieces from our permanent collection, Popular Arts in the Americas. It is accompanied by a guide and books related to popular arts, so the teacher can use them as additional resources.

Archaeological Sample Book
The Archaeological Sampler consists of replicas of archaeological objects alluding to the Taino Indians. Through these objects, you can explore and learn about aspects of the Taino cultural legacy. The sampler also includes a guide or manual for teachers to use in the classroom.

The mask in America
This trunk contains 16 original masks from various countries in the Americas, including the Caribbean. This interesting sampler is also accompanied by a fifteen-minute video that tells a brief story about the origins of mask use. Teachers can use this resource to motivate students to explore the history and anthropology of other cultures. Students can also learn to make masks, create their own plays, and, above all, learn about the magical and religious background of the countries of the Americas.

The Traveling Trunks project was sponsored by the Puerto Rican Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Foundation may collaborate by sponsoring speakers and/or lending films upon request by the institutions.
