Loiceña culture during the festivities in honor of Santiago Apóstol

The Museum of the Americas, in collaboration with the Heritage Collection and the Municipal Administration of Loíza, presented this exhibition highlighting one of our longest-standing and richest cultural traditions: the Festival of Santiago Apóstol.

The exhibition "The Culture of Loiza in Times of the Festival in Honor of Saint James the Apostle" showcases an extraordinary collection of vejigante masks made by a variety of excellent artisans from Loiza, along with the best photography, paintings, and sculptures by award-winning artists from Loiza, all in and outside the country. These are: Castor and Carlos Ayala, Celele Pizarro, Félix Cepeda, Pedro Laviera, Raúl Ayala, Orlando Tomassini, Lydia Calderón, Libe Vizcarrondo, Rosamary Berríos, Herminio Rodríguez, Lowell Fiet, Samuel Lind Torres, Daniel Lind Ramos, Eddie Rivera Quiñones, and Roxxana Jordán. Their works are inspired by the richness and beauty manifested during the annual festivals in honor of Saint James the Apostle in Loiza.

A series of texts accompanying the images offer information about the celebrations, the Christian and African origins that form the foundation of these festivities, and their varied artistic expressions.

This exhibition was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the group Heritage Collection Inc.; he Museum of the Americas; the Municipal Administration of Loíza and its mayor Julia M. Nazario Fuentes and the Joint Special Commission on Legislative Funds for Community Impact.
