Origins, History and Mission

The Museum of the Americas is a non-profit institution founded in 1992. Its mission is to offer a synoptic view of the history and culture of the American continent, with an emphasis on Puerto Rico, through our exhibition programs and cultural activities.

The Museum has five permanent exhibitions, namely: Popular Arts in the Americas, The African heritage, The Indigenous of the Americas, Conquest and Colonization: Birth and Evolution of the Puerto Rican Nation and Wooden Saints of Puerto Rico: Alegría-Pons Collection.

For the past 34 years old, the Museum has presented about 500 temporary exhibitions of art, history and anthropologyThe diversity of the exhibition program allows for a range of creative workshops, conferences, symposia, musical performances, and other activities, thus extending its impact to the community both within and outside its headquarters. The Museo de Las Américas is a multidisciplinary, multicultural, and multidimensional learning museum, serving a diverse community, which allows it to establish itself as a cutting-edge institution in Puerto Rico.

The Museum presents important exhibitions of art, history, anthropology, folklore, and archaeology. Artists from both Puerto Rico and abroad have exhibited their works in our galleries.

An Advisory Committee composed of renowned art professionals is responsible for evaluating proposals submitted to the Museum for exhibitions.
